Dr. John R. Langefeld is vice president of clinical integration and quality innovation for Vizient Southern States. He is a board certified family physician and physician executive with health care experience in clinical care that ranges from rural primary care to large delivery systems. Dr. Langefeld also has expertise in the areas of provider management, managed care organization leadership, consulting for large employer-sponsored benefit programs, worker’s compensation and disability management, and information management.
Prior to joining Vizient Southern States, Dr. Langefeld was chief medical officer for the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services - Department for Medicaid Services. Other past positions include chief medical officer for Artemetrx, a company specializing in how data analysis can impact clinical quality outcomes; medical director and vice president of health care management for Bluegrass Family Health, a regional health plan in Lexington, Kentucky; chief medical officer for Health Associates of Kentucky, a management service organization (MSO) supporting a large primary care network affiliated with the University of Kentucky Medical Center; as well as several other medical director and clinical care positions. Dr. Langefeld has also served on the faculty for two academic medical centers and in 2015, was selected as Citizen Doctor of the Year by the Kentucky Academy of Family Physicians.
Dr. Langefeld completed his undergraduate work at Berea College, received his medical degree from the University of Louisville’s School of Medicine, and completed his family medicine residency at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
