Virta Health, the first company to sustainably reverse type 2 diabetes (T2D) without surgery, has partnered with Phoenix Health Care Management Services, Inc., to deliver Virta’s diabetes reversal treatment to Vizient Southern States’ members.
Type 2 diabetes costs the nation nearly $400 billion per year, and this staggering cost is felt by patient and payer alike. Virta’s approach helps people living with type 2 diabetes restore their metabolic health and normalize blood sugar while actually removing the need for prescription medications.
In a peer-reviewed clinical trial, Virta’s patients saw use of prescription medications decline by 67% at two years, and while simultaneously experiencing a 0.9 improvement in HbA1c. Ninety-one percent of patients who began on insulin were able to reduce or eliminate their dosage. On average, patients lost 12% of their initial body weight and sustained these weight reductions at two years. No significant changes were observed in the usual care group, which underscores the acute need to find new solutions for T2D now.
Virta’s solution combines a proprietary medical nutrition therapy (MNT) with a new model of treating diabetes called continuous remote care. Instead of seeing a medical provider every few months for 15 minutes each time, Virta’s patients have on-demand access to Virta physicians (licensed in every U.S. state) and health coaches through a mobile application.
Virta puts its fees at risk, and only charges for patients who achieve successful outcomes based on diabetes reversal metrics. Current customers include all types of organizations across the country, including US Foods, Nielsen Company, U.S Department of Veterans Affairs, Purdue University and the Chickasaw Nation.
